O.J. Rustad M.D., Dermatologist

Dr. O.J. Rustad received his college education at St.Olaf College. He attended Medical School at the University of Minnesota, finishing his medical degree in 1985 and his Dermatology training and Board Certification in 1989. He was selected for an additional year of surgical experience in a Dermatology Surgical Fellowship at the University of Minnesota in 1990

He founded ADC in 1993. Dr. O.J. Rustad has written several articles published in medical journals, been a guest discussing dermatological conditions on both television and radio, and lectures to practicing physicians. He also helps educate dermatology, family practice, and internal medicine resident physicians and is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota. He has frequently been named one of the Mpls./St.Paul Magazine's Top Docs in Dermatology.


Ruth Rustad M.D., Internal Medicine Physician
Specializing in Dermatology


Dr. Ruth Rustad practices Primary Care Dermatology at ADC as an Internal Medicine physician (a physician who specializes in adult and adolescent medicine), and presents a general medical approach to common dermatology problems. She completed her undergraduate degrees at the College of St. Catherine.  She attended the University of Minnesota Medical School, finishing her medical degree in 1994. Dr. Rustad completed her intern year and then her Internal Medicine Residency specialty training at Abbott Northwestern Hospital and was Board Certified in 1998.  She previously practiced at St. Paul Internists, P.A. and joined ADC in 2003. As an internal medicine physician, she has a broad primary care knowledge base that includes the spectrum of medical subspecialites, including dermatology. She is exclusively focusing her care specifically in primary care dermatology at ADC, and adds her background in wellness and preventive care.

In 2006, Dr. Ruth Rustad became the Medical Director of Advanced Aesthetics (AE), ADC’s Cosmetic Services division.  She continues to attend further educational trainings and seminars to ensure proficiency in the latest aesthetic treatments and advancements in technology.  She has implemented rigorous training standards for the entire AE staff, and requires continued education as well as competency and proficiency verification in all cosmetic procedures.  She instructs other physicians and nurses in cosmetic education.  Dr. Ruth Rustad greatly enjoys the ability to provide high quality, safe and effective evidence-based treatments that truly improve the appearance and health of the skin.  Dr. Ruth Rustad is married to Dr. O.J. Rustad. Outside of work, the Rustads focus their time and energy on their three children.



Physician Assistants - Specializing in Dermatology

Physician Assistants (PAs) are healthcare providers licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. They perform physical examinations and take patient histories, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret laboratory tests, assist and/or perform in surgery, provide patient education and counseling, and write prescriptions. PAs are qualified by graduation from an accredited physician assistant educational program and certified by the National Commission on Certification of PAs. PAs work in all areas of medicine from family medicine to surgical sub-specialties, and are a valued member of the ADC team.



Julie Carson, PA-C, received her undergraduate degree in Exercise and Sports Science from Colorado State University in 1995. In 2000 she graduated from the Physician Assistant Program at Duke University with a Master of Health Science. Since receiving her PA Certification she has worked exclusively in Dermatology. For the past eleven years Julie has practiced in Raleigh, North Carolina and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Julie and her husband relocated to Minneapolis in November of 2011 prompted by a professional opportunity for her husband. In addition to her experience in general and surgical dermatology, Julie has expertise in skin and hair loss issues specific to the African American population. Julie and her husband enjoy spending time with their dog and traveling the world. Her hobbies include cooking, baking, fine dining, sewing, cycling and cross-fit.



Tressa Esty, PA-C, obtained her undergraduate degree in Biology from the College of Saint Scholastica in Duluth, MN.  She received her Masters degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA and completed her National Certification in 2006.

She moved back home to MN and has been practicing as a PA-C in the Twin Cities initially in Plastic Surgery and then specializing in General and Cosmetic Dermatology.  Her passion remains in Dermatology, and she joins Advanced Dermatology Care in April of 2008. Tressa enjoys spending time with her husband Matthew as well as family and friends.




Heather Kill, PA-C,
received her undergraduate degree in Cell Biology and Physiology from the University of California at Santa Barbara. She successfully earned a PA certificate at the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa. During her PA studies she was awarded Graduate with Distinction – PA Class of 1999. In October 1999 she completed her National PA Certification.

Since certifying as a PA, she has practiced in family medicine, urgent care, and has worked closely for a Mohs Surgeon in Dermatology and overall skin care. Heather joined ADC in November 2008 as a part time physician assistant.  Outside of medicine, Heather enjoys the time she spends with her husband and their two children.



Shelly Larson, PA-C,
obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Des Moines University Osteopathic Medical Center in Des Moines, IA.  After completing her National Certification in 2003, she worked in Dermatology for two years in the Twin Cities area.  In 2005, she moved to Fredericksburg, VA where she practiced Gastroenterology for three years. 

In October 2008, she and her husband moved back to the Twin Cities.  She is delighted to be practicing Medical Dermatology and to be a part of Advanced Dermatology Care.  In addition to her work at ADC, Shelly helps educate Physician Assistants students as a Preceptor in Dermatology for their clinical rotations.  Outside of work, Shelly enjoys spending time with her husband, family and friends.



Wendy Timmons, PA-C,
received her undergraduate degree in psychology from Western Michigan University.  She received her Masters degree in Medicine and became Nationally Board Certified in 2004, also from Western Michigan University.  During her PA studies she was recognized by the Physician Assistants department for “outstanding achievements in academics".  Since graduation she has working in dermatology for 4 years.

Wendy joined ADC in January 2009 as a part time physician assistant. In addition to medicine she enjoys staying active with outdoor activities such as down hill skiing, boating and scuba diving with her husband.




Linda Dubois, LPN, Nursing Supervisor, Procedure Nurse

Linda obtained her Practical Nursing Diploma from Pine Technical College in 2008. Prior to this she completed her Associates of Arts Degree at Century College in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. Currently she is working towards completion of her Bachelors of Science Degree at the University of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Linda joined the Advanced Dermatology Care/Advanced Esthetics team in June of 2008. Her current primary focus is Nursing Supervisor. As Nursing Supervisor for the ADC medical support staff, she leads the team to assist the Medical Providers in care, patient education, surgical assists, etc. Additionally, Linda is specially trained and qualified as a Dermatology Procedure Nurse to provide some dermatological procedures as directed by the Medical Providers, such as cryotherapy, injections, and simple biopsies.

Currently, Linda is also enrolled in the Cosmetic Care Specialist training for providing AE Cosmetic Dermatology procedures such as Botox/ Dysport injections, Laser Hair Removal, Microdermabrasion, etc. Outside of work Linda enjoys spending time with her two daughters, scrap-booking, reading, traveling, and spending time outdoors.


Melissa Larson, LPN, Cosmetic Care Specialist (CCS).
Melissa is a graduate from the University of Minnesota- Duluth with a BA in Communications and Psychology.  She worked in marketing and public relations for several years, until a visit to ADC as a patient sparked an interest in dermatology and inspired her to go back to school for nursing.  She completed the Licensed Practical Nursing program at Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire, WI, and became a Licensed Practical Nurse in December 2007.

She joined the ADC/Advanced Esthetics team in 2008 with a focus as a Cosmetic Specialty Nurse, and completed her Cosmetic Care Specialist training.  In addition to the non-invasive treatments such as microdermabrasion and chemical peels; Melissa is a Nurse Injector with  experience in Botox / Dysport and dermal filler injections. Melissa enjoys being outdoors, and spending time with her family, friends, and pets.



Lisa Hause, CMA, Cosmetic Care Specialist (CCS)

Lisa obtained her education in medical assisting from Northeast Metro Technical College and has been working as a Certified Medical Assistant since 1987.  Her first 16 years of work was in a family practice clinic where she performed lab and nursing duties.

Lisa has been with ADC since 2003, working with medical and surgical patients, and began providing cosmetic treatments since 2006 after completing her training as an AE Cosmetic Care Specialist.  She enjoys her free time with her husband and two children, and is active with boating, and playing softball.



Cindy Wilson, CMA, Cosmetic Care Specialist (CCS)
Cindy obtained her Medical Assisting diploma in 1997 from Lakeland Medical/Dental Academy.  Prior to coming to Advanced Dermatology Care, she worked at an OB/GYN clinic for 5 years. 

Cindy then joined ADC in 2003, assisting in medical and surgical dermatology care. She began training as an AE Cosmetic Care Specialist in January 2007, and completed all requirements as a CCS in August 2008. She specializes in cosmetic consultation, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, Skin Rejuvenation, and Accent body shaping treatments.  Cindy continues to gain additional knowledge in her studies in health and science to further her education, while also spending quality time with her husband and two children.
