Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)
Have you ever had someone tell you that you look tired, or ask if you haven’t been sleeping well, but the truth is you sleep like a rock and life couldn’t be better?
The real culprit here is the aging skin around the eyes. As we age the eyelid skin loses its elasticity, and muscles supporting them weaken, causing our eyelids to droop and bags appear making us look worn and tired. Severely sagging skin can cause an extra fold of skin to form which can hang over the eyelashes and impair your vision.
What is a Blepharoplasty?
A surgical procedure called a Blepharoplasty, or “eyelid surgery” can help remove excess skin from the upper eyelids, and protruding fat causing the “bags” under the eyes.
However, this procedure will not stop your eyes from continuing to age, and cannot alter dark circles, fine lines around the eyes, nor change sagging eyebrows. Additional surgical procedures such as a brow lift, and/or cosmetic facial treatments such as chemical peels, Fraxel® Re:pair laser resurfacing, Botox and dermal fillers may be suggested in conjunction to your blepharoplasty to help treat other cosmetic concerns.
